“Hello, Anger helps to normalize big feelings for children by encouraging them to become curious about what is really going on underneath. By saying hello to feelings like anger, frustration, and hurt, kids (and grown-ups) can move toward peace.”
Attachment & Trauma Network, Inc.
“An essential guide to cultivating emotional intelligence for kids.”

Explains underlying feelings
“I appreciate the approach of this book for explaining the feelings under the anger. Even my kindergarteners want to hear the story again. It has been helpful with upper elementary understanding the thoughts and feelings behind their angry behavior.”

About the Book
At Sunnyvale Elementary, the students carry more than books in their backpacks. Hidden beneath the surface are big emotions that can be hard to name, hard to handle, and even harder to understand. Today, one fiery red book keeps spilling out and exploding onto everyone: ANGER.
In Hello, Anger, readers join Ana, Ben, and Grace as they step into their roles as backpack detectives on a mission to uncover what’s really behind those outbursts.
Ana feels hurt when her friends don’t play fair.
Ben feels embarrassed when he makes a mistake.
Grace feels different when she’s left out.
With gentle guidance and relatable scenarios, this story helps children recognize the emotions hiding under their anger, and it gives caring adults the tools to support them with compassion and curiosity.

Encourages emotional curiosity over shame
Rather than telling children to suppress or ignore anger, Hello, Anger invites questions like, “What is underneath the mad?” This creates a supportive path to emotional insight.

A must-have tool for helping kids understand and manage anger!
I’ve already used this book in small groups and individual sessions, and the kids immediately connected with it. It opens the door for important conversations about emotional regulation, self-awareness, and coping skills. I also love that it empowers kids to be curious about their feelings instead of ashamed of them.

Great Resource!
As an elementary school counselor, I love how Hello, Anger invites children to think about the underlying reasons that could be causing their angry feelings. This book would be great for the upper elementary crowd-2nd/3rd grade and up.
I loved how the author showed different scenarios of students (and their teacher) being angry as well as the physical sensations they had.
